Creating Our Culture of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Next Livestream Series Conversation:
Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023,
10 a.m.
Topic: Gender expression

Many Extension faculty have or will encounter a situation of a participant in a program asking to use their correct gender identity. To show inclusiveness and sensitivity to others' expressions, per MU Title IX policy, we need to educate ourselves what exactly they're asking.

A Conversation Leading to Inclusive Plans (CLIP) PDF outline to guide follow-up discussions

It's also important that we are not making assumptions about others' identity and that we display appropriate sensitivity and empathy.

With us for the discussion are:

  • Briana Anderson, MU Extension field specialist in Human Development and Family Sciences in Franklin County
  • Christina Carney, assistant professor, MU College of Arts and Science Women's & Gender Studies, director of undergraduate studies
  • Alex Pearson, attorney
