The Thomas and Mildred Brown Professional Development Award recognizes a University of Missouri Extension regional faculty member who has demonstrated excellence and commitment to professional growth.
Thomas (Tom) G. Brown began his 46 year career with Extension as an Assistant County Agent in Ray County in 1949, moving to Audrain County later that same year. He also served in Adair and Lincoln Counties as County Agent before moving to the UM Campus in 1957 as Extension Farm Management Specialist. He became the Program Leader/Director of Ag Economics Extension in 1965 and in 1979 was named the Associate Dean of the College of Agriculture and Director of Agriculture Extension.
Recipients will receive a plaque and up to $1,000 to be used for professional development.
While all University of Missouri Extension regional faculty are eligible, first preference will be given to faculty in agri-business, animal and/or plant specialities.
Nominees are evaluated on:
- Demonstrated excellence in regional programming.
- Proposed uses of the professional development funds.
- Role in efforts related to agri-business, animal and/or plant specialities.
