Online Teaching, Learning and Course Administration Support
The Right Tools to Deliver Online Courses
In 2017, University of Missouri Extension launched its Canvas learning management system (LMS) to leverage learning technologies for “high-tech” program delivery. Our publicly-accessible online learning platform enhances access to the resources and research of the University of Missouri through learning that is both flexible and immediately accessible. Our audiences can interact with us virtually anytime, anywhere. Individuals have accessed our online courses from as far as Canada and Mexico.
Canvas, along with additional integrated technologies — Kaltura video management, CIDI Design Tools, UDOIT accessibility checking software and VoiceThread, an online communication and collaboration tool — are part of Extension’s suite of technologies to support our mission. In addition, ProctorU, an online proctoring service using professionally-trained live proctors, supported by AI-based behavior analysis, will be an upcoming addition to our Canvas system in the spring of 2020.
Our new Canvas LMS’ popularity is backed by statistics. During 2018, the number of MU Extension Canvas courses increased over 300%, and participants increased by almost as much.
